![]() BCATW ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING BEST WESTERN ABERCORN INN JANUARY 9, 2008 By Chris Millikan, Vice President |
| The BC Association of Travel Writers
held its Annual General Meeting on January 9, 2008 from 6:00 pm at the Abercorn
Inn in Richmond. Goody bags brimming with donated items greeted all 19 members
in attendance.
Before tendering her resignation from the Board of Directors, president Margaret Deefholts kicked off the meeting with a comprehensive overview of the history of the BCATW since its inception in 1999. Acknowledging its growth, successes and innovations over nine years of operation, Margaret pointed out that the BCATW maintains its travel writer focus for both experienced writer members and its emerging writers, all locally based. Margaret well served the Association, on the Board for all nine years. Before Karoline Cullen conducted election of the new Board, Treasurer Robert Scheer outlined the association’s finances. All positions on the Board were then filled and will conduct the business of the Association until the next AGM in October/November 2008.
A subcommittee of volunteers was formed. This group of experienced and enthusiastic members has committed to carrying out the plans and wishes of the board over the coming year. Sub-Committee members: Margaret Deefholts; Jane Cassie; Sally Bennett; Randi Winter; Joei Carlton; Caroline Jackson (phone person). The meeting unanimously passed the amendment to the quorum regulation as written and reviewed the survey results, to which 44% of our members had responded. Following completion of the agenda and a brisk exchange of motivating ideas, members enjoyed light refreshments before the final drawing of the major door prizes. The meeting concluded before 9:00 pm. |
