John Geary is a professional freelance writer-photographer who specializes in stories about ecotourism and adventure travel, although he is not limited to those types of pieces. Many of his travels involve paddling: he has canoed, kayaked and/or rafted in six Canadian provinces, Belize, Ecuador and Africa. A career journalist since 1984, he has worked in professional radio and newspaper. His freelance credits include publication in more than 40 magazines in Canada, the U.S. and Britain, as well as two stories in the 2003 book, More of Canada's Best Canoe Routes. He lives in Vancouver, B.C., with his wife Ann and their two African grey parrots, Nikki and Coco.
