Cherie received her M.A. in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia, took up marketing to support herself, and then decided it was more fun to starve as a writer. Brief stints as a television scriptwriter, university lecturer and arts events coordinator followed, but the problem was as soon as some money was saved, she spent it on travel and not a mortgage and children. At 50, the ideal job presented itself - the first job she could actually take with her - travel writing. Specializing in "soft adventure", she now feels she has the ideal job, combining travel with starving is much more intense. Cherie's other love is teaching; she teaches four travel writing courses a year at the University of Victoria.
